3 Second Drill

Set two lines of players on opposite wings with a feeder at the middle. 3 Players start on the crease and break when ball is rolled. A ball is rolled to the first player, who scoops it, quickly surveys the field, and either catches and shoots or attacks the backside. After the first attempt, they rotate to the end of a line while the next player begins, keeping continuous flow. Emphasize three-second decision-making to simulate fast, offensive transitions.

Muddle Drill

Drill Description This is a competitive 5v5 drill focused on winning ground balls inside the 8 meter and transitioning quickly to offense or defense. Five attackers and five defenders start inside the 8 meter. The coach moves around the outside of the 12 meter and behind the goal with a ball, and players may not look at the coach. The coach rolls a ground ball into the 8 meter to start play. If the offense gains possession, they immediately attack the cage and try to score. If the defense gains possession, they must clear the ball with control to the 50 yard line. Scoring: -Attack scores a goal = 1 point -Attack forces a turnover on the ride = 2 points -Defense clears successfully to the 50 = 1 point -Defense completes two passes during the clear = 2 points

Free Position 8 Meter Drill

Drill Description This drill simulates free position shooting from the 8 meter by running quick, consecutive reps. Attackers line up on the center hash and the two outside hashes, while defenders line up on the two inside hashes, and the 2 hanging hashes. One attacker goes at a time, taking an 8 meter shot while the 2 defenders on each side step crash to ball. Reps move continuously to keep the pace high and mimic game-like free position situations. Coaching Focus Points: -Explosive first step on the whistle - Keeping your stick between your shoulders -Defensive crashing to where they are going, not where they were.

Perfect Passing

Groups of 5–6 set up 2 cones 10–15 yds apart. One “Post” player with 5 balls passes while others line up opposite. Sequence 1–2: right- then left-handed passes, 45–60s each. Sequence 3–4: imperfect passes (offside, bounce, high), focus on handling unpredictability safely. Sequence 5: groundballs, pick up and return. Sequence 6: multiple passes—stationary, quicksticks, over-the-shoulder, and QB-style passes. Rotate Posts, retrieve balls, rest 30s between.

Steal the Bacon

A ball is placed at midfield and the players are divided into two teams. Each team spreads out along opposing lines about 25 yards away from the ball (or around the circle). Each player has a number and the numbers on one team coincide with those on the other. The coach calls a number and the two players who have those numbers sprint for the ball in the center. The player who picks up the ball must then cradle and cross his own line when a point is scored. Keep score for a fun end of practice game for youth teams!

2v2 Continuous

Righties and lefties to their offensive sides of the court with players lined up about 15ft above house. 2 righties start on their side with 2 lefties defending. Ball should start low but can be started by coach pass. Play begins with righties on offence. Play ends when defense gets ball or a shot is made. Once play is complete, righties go to defense on other side against 2 new lefties on offense. Play happens in same manner with lefties on offence until play is dead then lefty offenders go to defense. Can be modified where righties play and extra turn at defense against righties on offense if lefty numbers are low. Focus should be on quick ball movement inside a tight space inside house. Ensure offense stays on their strong side. Ideal if ball starts low or is passed from high to low position. high offender comes down to set pick on low defense and rolls towards net. Ball carrier swings top and looks for pass through defense to find teammate. If pick fails, encourage players to reset

7-109-12Box - DefenseBox - Offense

4 corner 1v1

-4 lines, 2 top 2 bottom both sides of court. -1v1 at each corner in order L1, L2, R2, R1 -each corner has 5 seconds to get shot off or strip ball -1v1 does not start until D1 has touched Offender glove with stick -remind players of defensive positioning, push away from center -Progression depending on skill: allow starting position for offence to have topside option and defender has to regain that control.

9-1212-14Box - Defense

1 v 1 in Box

Create a 10 x 10 box. One player with the ball in on offense, and tries to get past the other player to the other side of the box. This can be done with the defender with a stick or without.
