2v2 Continuous Ground Ball Drill
Set up two teams of two inside the 8-meter. Coach rolls out a ground ball—players battle 2v2 to gain possession and score or clear. Once the play ends (goal, turnover, or out of bounds), a new ball is immediately rolled in from a different spot to keep players reacting and communicating. Each group plays three balls in a row before rotating out. Emphasize body positioning, running through the ball, and quick transitions from ground ball to offense or defense. Keep pace fast and intensity high.
3v3 to 4v4 to 5v5
- Start with a setup 3v3 in a high triangle shape, play through a bit, with emphasis on holding your shape - Play 3v3 for a bit then add 1 defender and 1 attacker. Shape should be in a box now, play through - Add 1 defender and 1 attacker and move into a house shape - Introduce pass pick away, pass cut through - Overall, make sure we continue moving

Teams must clear to the opposite restraining before attacking the cage Setup -3 field players per team -Two goals set up back to back between restraining lines -Drill starts with a ground ball in the middle. -The team that gains possession chooses their scoring goal by clearing toward a restraining line. -Every offensive player must touch the restraining line with a foot before becoming involved in forward play -The ball does not need to touch the sideline and may move freely -Play live with substitutions on the fly
5v4 Fast Break with Trailing Middie
- Can have 7v6 as well with trail. - Setup with 3 middies on attack and 2 middies on defense coming in from the 50 with 2 attack and 2 defenders low (or 4 attack and 4 defenders low) - Add the 3rd defensive middie once the ball passes the 30. - Defense needs to slow down the ball and then get organized until they can get into a settled offense. - Offense needs to push the fast break before defense can get settled. - Switch out the low girls every 3-4 reps.
T-Drill
- setup 4 cones in a T shape - to start, sprint out to the cone in the middle and break down you feet like you are approaching an attacker - slide shuffle to one cone, left or right - sprint to the opposite cone and then sprint back for a ground ball
Round Robin Face Off
Get reps for 2-3 faceoff players going head-to-head with different moves. Set up at the midfield X. Players cycle in and battle until someone wins each draw. Focus on working different moves and playing out ground balls. Variation: Place cones or paint circles to designate where players should direct the ball, simulating getting it to wing players.
Sqaures
There are 4 lines (A,B,C and D), each at a point on a square. Player A starts with the ball and runs toward player B. Player B runs toward line C (perpendicularly to player A's movement) and receives the ball from player A. Player B continues with the ball as player C moves toward line D. Player B passes to player C, who advances toward line D. The ball continues to be passed around the square. Variations: - Add more than one ball - Change directions - Left-handed
Air Force Drill
The coach blows the whistle and rolls out a ground ball to each wing. Players race to the balls, and whoever wins each ground ball immediately leads a 4v3 fast break toward their designated end of the field. The defenders sprint back to stop the attack, and play continues until there’s a goal, turnover, or the coach whistles the drill dead. Focus on quick pickups, fast ball movement, and communication. Attackers should exploit numbers advantage, while defenders practice sliding, coverage, and recovering under pressure. Variations let you adjust intensity and complexity: change the fast break setup, add or subtract players, bring in players from other areas, or allow the ground ball loser to chase, turning it into a 4v4. You can even have the chaser come from the opposite wing to keep players reading the play and reacting quickly.
