Partner Passing
Players line up 10 yards apart and work with a partner, moving through a series of passing progressions to develop stick skills. The progression includes: - One-handed passes, right hand - One-handed passes, left hand - Two-handed passes, right hand - Two-handed passes, left hand - Cross-armed passes, right hand - Cross-armed passes, left hand - Catch right, throw left - Catch left, throw right Continue to add or remove progressions as necessary based on skill level.
Star Passing
Players form a 5-point star around the restraining line. Start with one ball and pass diagonally across the star, emphasizing long, accurate passes and quick recognition of teammates. Focus on catching cleanly, stepping into passes, and maintaining proper spacing. Add multiple balls to increase pace and challenge awareness, reaction time, and decision-making while keeping players in correct star positions throughout the drill.
Water Break
Players take a short break to drink water and rest. Use the time to recover and get ready for the next drill.
West Genny
Set three offensive players (Player 1–3) vs. two defenders (Player 4–5) on a short field with a net at each end (sideline-to-sideline OR box-to-box OR similar distance). Play 3v2 until a goal or turnover. The last offensive player to touch the ball rotates out; remaining offense switches to defense and runs back into the hole to defend their net. The goalie clears a new ball to 3 new offensive players pushing down in a 3v2. End practice on a high note and keep score for fun!
Active Stretch
Have players line up in a straight line and perform a series of dynamic movements to warm up muscles and improve mobility. Examples include walking stretches, lunges, walking squats, leaps, bounds, hops, jumps, and twists. Focus on controlled movement, proper form, and gradually increasing intensity to prepare the body for practice.
2v1 Ground Balls
Set three lines 2 yards apart: two teammates on the outside lines, one defender in the middle line. Coach rolls a ball toward the middle. First teammate scoops the ball; second teammate positions between ball and defender, using body and stick to shield. Communicate and work together to win possession. Can vary angles or progress to a “go to goal” scenario.
Offense/Defense Split Template
Players divide into offensive and defensive groups on opposite sides of the field. Offense: INSERT DRILL HERE Defense: INSERT DRILL HERE ADD DESCRIPTION TO PLAN EXPORT to handle multiple drills in the same block.
2v2 Continuous Ground Ball Drill
Set up two teams of two inside the 8-meter. Coach rolls out a ground ball—players battle 2v2 to gain possession and score or clear. Once the play ends (goal, turnover, or out of bounds), a new ball is immediately rolled in from a different spot to keep players reacting and communicating. Each group plays three balls in a row before rotating out. Emphasize body positioning, running through the ball, and quick transitions from ground ball to offense or defense. Keep pace fast and intensity high.
Partner Passing on the Run
Split into pairs. Players will partner pass to the cone and then back. Focusing on passing and catching while moving.
Youth Defensive Shuffle Drill
Set up a 5-yard side-to-side area using cones. Players start in a low defensive stance, feet shoulder-width, knees bent, hands/stick in front. Shuffle laterally across the zone, keeping stick up when changing direction. Focus on quick, controlled footwork and proper stick positioning. Progress by adding a ball carrier to reinforce stick placement and reaction while maintaining defensive stance.
Continuous Crease Roll and Top 8M Defense
Drill Description This is a fast-paced defensive drill that gives defenders repeated reps defending crease rolls and 1v1s from the top of the 8M. Balls are placed behind the GLE and at the top of the 12M, with attacker lines at both locations. One defender lines up on the GLE at the hash next to the crease. The attacker behind the GLE goes first and chooses which side to roll. As soon as a shot is taken or the ball becomes dead, the attacker at the top of the 12M is immediately released. The defender must recover quickly, approach with shooting space awareness, slow the attacker, and force her outside. The drill runs continuously at a high tempo.
Waterfall
4 lines, 2 on each side of the field (full field drill), at the 20's and 40's, passing across the field all the way down. Start with a clear and end with a shot. Can progress to place defense along field in the middle.
