5v4 Fast Break with Trailing Middie
- Can have 7v6 as well with trail. - Setup with 3 middies on attack and 2 middies on defense coming in from the 50 with 2 attack and 2 defenders low (or 4 attack and 4 defenders low) - Add the 3rd defensive middie once the ball passes the 30. - Defense needs to slow down the ball and then get organized until they can get into a settled offense. - Offense needs to push the fast break before defense can get settled. - Switch out the low girls every 3-4 reps.
2v2 Continuous Ground Ball Drill
Set up two teams of two inside the 8-meter. Coach rolls out a ground ball—players battle 2v2 to gain possession and score or clear. Once the play ends (goal, turnover, or out of bounds), a new ball is immediately rolled in from a different spot to keep players reacting and communicating. Each group plays three balls in a row before rotating out. Emphasize body positioning, running through the ball, and quick transitions from ground ball to offense or defense. Keep pace fast and intensity high.

3v2
Work 3v2 situations in the attack zone. 3 offensive players vs 2 defenders. Coach starts play with a ground ball or pass. Play to a goal, save, clear, or whistle. Variation: Flip it — 2 offensive players vs 3 defenders. Defense clears all saves or takeaways. Add passing requirements.
Out and Up Clear
Improve clearing and pushing the ball upfield quickly. 2 goalies (or 1 goalie and 1 coach) in the cage. Two lines on each side, about 3 yards behind GLE. On "Clear," the near player breaks to the wing on a banana cut while the wide player breaks upfield. Goalie clears to the wing; that player pushes the ball ahead to the player breaking downfield. Players return to opposite lines. Run both sides. Variation: Add a ride to pressure the clears.
1v1 Retreat Drill
- have a set of cones that they have to stay inside on each side - no sticks - attacker is trying to jab and get a clear lane down the lane - defense is trying to keep the attacker in front of them - start with an approach
Umbrella Approaches
5-person drill: 4 offensive players on perimeter (varying distances), 1 off-ball defender in middle. Ball starts with D4, passes randomly to perimeter players. Defender makes approach, opponent executes double move at 75% speed, returns ball to D4. Defender recovers, creates ball-you-man triangle, prepares for next approach. Three different approach angles/distances. Ends with ground ball recovery and clear. Emphasizes off-ball positioning and recovery.
