4 Person Box Stickwork
Set up: \ 4 cones set up in a box, 3 players on 3 cones, one player in the middle. 2 players have balls. Drill: \ Two balls going at once, players on the outside have to pass to the player in the middle than move. The player on the inside has to pass out to the open player on an outside cone. Once a player on the outside passes inside, they then have to move to the open cone. Practicing pass and move in tight spaces. outside always passes to the outside then cuts to open cone. pass and move. Either make the person in the middle stay for a set time or for a set number of catches.
Transition Drill 3v2 initiate from Behind after 2 Passes
Reinforce the X man's role in initiating offense from behind and forcing defensive slides. Coach rolls the ball above the box. Two offensive players stay above GLE, one goes to X. Players get the ball to X. The X man initiates, looking to draw a slide and create a 2v1 — either dodging to shoot or feeding the open crease player. Variation: Build up in stages — 1v1 behind, then 2v2, 3v3, up to 6v6 starting from behind.
Wing Dodge and Crease Picking
Practice dodges from the wing and crease player movement in relation to ball position. Ball starts at the wing. Crease players position opposite and away from where the ball is coming. Variation: As players get comfortable, have crease pick and re-pick, or pick and roll to increase difficulty.
3v2 Horizontal
Set up: \ Split 8 horizontally with cones. 3 attackers go in up top and 2 defenders go in with them. Down low there is two lines of attackers with balls. (a coach can also be on the side feeding in balls)\ \ Start with the top group. Play out the 3v2. Then whoever shoots the ball, moves down into the bottom half to play with the lower 2 attackers. Defense stays in for both top and bottom round.
125's
start lined up on GLE, sprint to 50 yard line, turn and sprint back to GLE, sprint back through 25 yard line. Walk back to GLE, 1 min break, repeat as desired
Spoke Drill
Set up six cones in a semi-circle representing top center, top left, and top right areas. Start at the middle cone and rotate clockwise, designating each cone as an offensive player. Defensive players work on breaking down with short, choppy steps, keeping their stick out to take away top side, forcing attackers to the low alley. Focus on recovery to the inside and maintaining positioning. Repeat counterclockwise for full coverage and consistency. Next player goes when player hits second cone.
Out of Dodge
Improve defensive communication and sliding in a live 6v6 setting. 6 offensive players in a 1-4-1, 6 defenders plus a goalie. Offense passes the ball around. Coach calls out a defender's jersey number — that player sprints to the sideline and back. While he's gone, the ball carrier attacks the goal, forcing the remaining defense to slide and rotate. After a goal or turnover, repeat with a different player called out. Variation: Use different slide packages (crease, adjacent) against different sets (1-4-1, 1-3-2, 2-2-2).
4v4
Work 4v4 situations in the attack zone. 4 offensive players vs 4 defenders. Coach starts play with a ground ball or pass. Play until a goal, save, clear, or whistle. Variation: Defense clears all saves or takeaways out of the box. Add passing requirements or other skill constraints.
