Circle Feeds GB's or passes

Improve stick skills through passing and catching on the move, plus ground ball work and conditioning. Arrange 8 players — 4 inside (back to back, stationary) and 4 outside rotating around them. Each outside player has a ball. Outside players rotate, passing and catching with the inside players. Focus on throwing to the box area and switching hands as fast as possible. Variation: Mix in ground ball pickups. Increase jogging speed and drill duration for conditioning. Advanced players can add behind-the-back passes.

Star Passing

Players form a 5-point star around the restraining line. Start with one ball and pass diagonally across the star, emphasizing long, accurate passes and quick recognition of teammates. Focus on catching cleanly, stepping into passes, and maintaining proper spacing. Add multiple balls to increase pace and challenge awareness, reaction time, and decision-making while keeping players in correct star positions throughout the drill.

Post Passing

Setup: – Set up two cones or posts about 8–10 yards apart. – One player stands in the middle; two others stand on each post with sticks up and ready. – Each post should have a ball. Clearing Relay

Players line up in all four corners of the box with goalies at both sides in between the lines . At the same time, players to the left of each goalie sprint upfield and receive an outlet pass from the goalie over the shoulder and sprint through the other side and get in line. Drill moves continuously with goalies throwing back and forth. Emphasize catching on the run, crisp outlet passes, quick ball movement, and catching over the shoulder..

4 Corner Over-The-Shoulder

Set four cones in a square with 3+ players at each corner. Start with one ball: Player 1 catches over the left shoulder, switches hands, and passes to the next corner in a counterclockwise rotation. Midway, reverse direction. Add balls as skill allows. On a “break” call, roll a ground ball upfield for players to scoop and pass. Emphasize leading teammates, catching on the run, and strong/weak hand throws.

Gauntlet

Develop dodging skills, footwork, and ball protection through a gauntlet of moves. Players line up with balls. 5 cones in a straight line, 5 yards apart. At each cone, execute a dodge (coach-assigned or player's choice). After 2-3 reps, add a soft defender at each cone. Progress to allowing defenders to check. Variation: Move cone positions. Add a shot on goal after the final cone.

Dodging

Handling Defensive Pressure

Teach players to handle defensive pressure, work for the ball, and create turnovers under time constraints. 6v6 in the attack zone. Offense holds possession for 6 minutes without leaving the box. After 45 seconds, add a 7th defender and work to double-team the ball. Variation: Shrink the zone with cones, remove offensive players, or use the goalie to double behind the cage.

Bump and Run Coverage

Set up the drill like a football pass play with an offensive player lined up across from a defender who does not have a stick. On the whistle, the offense makes one hard move and goes, while the defender bumps, runs, and stays tight in coverage to prevent the offensive player from catching an outlet pass from the coach.

Defense (Individual)Competition

3v2 to a 4v3

- Split into 2 teams, 1 team has three lines low to start, the other team has 2 lines high to start (switch half way) - Ball starts with the 3 girls low and 2 girls are coming in from the top to play defense - Once the ball is scored or turned over, the 2 girls that were playing defense become offense, and 2 more girls are adding in to join on offense from the top - The 3 girls that started low on attack are now on defense to play a 4v3 - Reset with new girls starting the 3v2 low (or you can have the 2 girls that came in from top for the 4v3, start low)
