10 Yard Sprints
Build short-sprint speed and change-of-direction quickness. Players line up on the sideline. Cones 10 yards from the boundary. Sprint line to line, 4 times in 12-15 seconds. Repeat 5 times. Variation: Hold a stick and shuffle instead of sprinting. Increase time to 15-18 seconds. Stay low throughout.

Star Passing
Players form a 5-point star around the restraining line. Start with one ball and pass diagonally across the star, emphasizing long, accurate passes and quick recognition of teammates. Focus on catching cleanly, stepping into passes, and maintaining proper spacing. Add multiple balls to increase pace and challenge awareness, reaction time, and decision-making while keeping players in correct star positions throughout the drill.
Waterfall
4 lines, 2 on each side of the field (full field drill), at the 20's and 40's, passing across the field all the way down. Start with a clear and end with a shot. Can progress to place defense along field in the middle.
JHU
5 Lines of players are lined up along GLE (Lines in Order: Offense, Defense, Offense, Goal, Defense, Offense). A cone is placed 5 yards on the outside of the first and last offense lines, a cone is placed at the top of the box in front of the inner offense line (distance can vary on age and speed of drill). When whistle is blown, the outer offense and defense must run around the outside cones and drop into the whole of the field, the inner offense must run around the top cone and receive a ball to play to a goal or dead ball.
Post Passing
Setup: – Set up two cones or posts about 8–10 yards apart. – One player stands in the middle; two others stand on each post with sticks up and ready. – Each post should have a ball. Drill Instructions: – The middle player receives a pass from one side, quickly passes it back, then turns to catch from the other side. – Continue passing back and forth for 30–45 seconds, then switch players. – Focus on catching and releasing quickly with clean stickwork and both hands. Coaching Points: – Keep hands up and ready, eyes on the ball. – Use quick wrists and limit cradle time. – Switch hands halfway through to work both sides. – Communicate and keep a fast tempo.
Continuous Crease Roll and Top 8M Defense
Drill Description This is a fast-paced defensive drill that gives defenders repeated reps defending crease rolls and 1v1s from the top of the 8M. Balls are placed behind the GLE and at the top of the 12M, with attacker lines at both locations. One defender lines up on the GLE at the hash next to the crease. The attacker behind the GLE goes first and chooses which side to roll. As soon as a shot is taken or the ball becomes dead, the attacker at the top of the 12M is immediately released. The defender must recover quickly, approach with shooting space awareness, slow the attacker, and force her outside. The drill runs continuously at a high tempo.
Full Field Fast Breaks
Set up two lines of players at opposite ends of the field, with a goalie in each net, three attackmen, and three defenders at each end setup for a fast break (Attack in L shape, Defense in triangle). The drill begins when the goalies at both ends throw an outlet pass on the run to the line on their right (change to left as you see fit). The midfielder gets the outlet and pushes the 4v3 fast break, while the other line sends a chaser to the ball carrier. The drill continues until the fast break results in a shot or defensive stop.
Over and Down Shooting
Develop ball movement and positioning — move the ball from the top, across and down for a crease finish. 3 lines with cones: one at the top of the box, one at the opposite top, one 3 yards behind GLE. Balls start at the top corner. That player dodges inside, bounces back, and feeds across to the other top line. That player catches and moves it down to the GLE line, who finishes across the crease. Rotate counter-clockwise. Variation: Switch sides. Designate the shooter. Add defense.
Youth Defensive Shuffle Drill
Set up a 5-yard side-to-side area using cones. Players start in a low defensive stance, feet shoulder-width, knees bent, hands/stick in front. Shuffle laterally across the zone, keeping stick up when changing direction. Focus on quick, controlled footwork and proper stick positioning. Progress by adding a ball carrier to reinforce stick placement and reaction while maintaining defensive stance.
