4 Corner Over-The-Shoulder
Set four cones in a square with 3+ players at each corner. Start with one ball: Player 1 catches over the left shoulder, switches hands, and passes to the next corner in a counterclockwise rotation. Midway, reverse direction. Add balls as skill allows. On a “break” call, roll a ground ball upfield for players to scoop and pass. Emphasize leading teammates, catching on the run, and strong/weak hand throws.

Post Passing
Setup: – Set up two cones or posts about 8–10 yards apart. – One player stands in the middle; two others stand on each post with sticks up and ready. – Each post should have a ball. Drill Instructions: – The middle player receives a pass from one side, quickly passes it back, then turns to catch from the other side. – Continue passing back and forth for 30–45 seconds, then switch players. – Focus on catching and releasing quickly with clean stickwork and both hands. Coaching Points: – Keep hands up and ready, eyes on the ball. – Use quick wrists and limit cradle time. – Switch hands halfway through to work both sides. – Communicate and keep a fast tempo.
Clearing Relay
Players line up in all four corners of the box with goalies at both sides in between the lines . At the same time, players to the left of each goalie sprint upfield and receive an outlet pass from the goalie over the shoulder and sprint through the other side and get in line. Drill moves continuously with goalies throwing back and forth. Emphasize catching on the run, crisp outlet passes, quick ball movement, and catching over the shoulder..
Youth Defensive Shuffle Drill
Set up a 5-yard side-to-side area using cones. Players start in a low defensive stance, feet shoulder-width, knees bent, hands/stick in front. Shuffle laterally across the zone, keeping stick up when changing direction. Focus on quick, controlled footwork and proper stick positioning. Progress by adding a ball carrier to reinforce stick placement and reaction while maintaining defensive stance.
5v4 Drill
Set up half the field with five offensive players and four defenders. The coach holds a ball and can either roll it out as a ground ball or pass it directly into the group to start the action. On the whistle, the offense attacks the goal with one extra player, moving the ball quickly and looking for gaps. The defense slides, communicates, and tries to prevent a shot while managing their numbers disadvantage. The play continues until there’s a goal, save, clear, or the coach blows the whistle. Focus on crisp passes, smart positioning, and timing your slides perfectly. Encourage the offense to use the extra player advantage without overcommitting, and remind defenders to anticipate passes and recover quickly. To mix it up, flip the numbers so the defense has five and the offense has four, or add rules like a minimum number of passes before shooting, or requiring defenders to clear the ball outside the attack zone. You can even start from a ground ball to simulate a chaotic restart.
Split Drill
Place cones down the center of the 8-meter to split it in half. Position three attackers on each side, with five defenders total. On the ball side, three defenders play man-to-man (3v3), while the opposite side starts as 3v2. Offense works to swing the ball across to the backside for the advantage. Once the ball moves, one defender may shift over to balance it at 3v3. Offense must stay on their side; only one defender can cross.
4v4
Work 4v4 situations in the attack zone. 4 offensive players vs 4 defenders. Coach starts play with a ground ball or pass. Play until a goal, save, clear, or whistle. Variation: Defense clears all saves or takeaways out of the box. Add passing requirements or other skill constraints.
